THE final week of the 2005 season saw Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club scheduled to play three matches. The first was Tuesday?s away fixture at Ipplepen, where Tavistock found themselves ?on the carpet? facing what, for most of them, was the new experience of playing on a fast, all weather outdoor carpet bowling green. Not unexpectedly they travelled back to Tavistock having been well beaten. Wednesday saw a Tavistock mixed team facing Plymouth Civil Service in a home fixture, which Tavistock won 102-69, after winning four of the five rinks played. Skip Der Saunders and his crew of Marlene Paramor, Walter Meek and Anne Brown,w on 23-14, while skip Vic Stacey led his squad of Mary Wills, Ray Meneer and Charlie Cummings to a one shot 16-15 victory. Skip Norman Paramor and his team of Yvonne Meneer, Barry Chappell and Catriona Meek won 21-15, while skip Sue Silcox and her team of David Perry, Wallace Northey and Henny Bawden won 15 of the 21 ends to achieve 27-8 victory Skip Ernie Piper and his squad of Betty Browse, Freda Isaac and Wallace Northey, went down 15-17 after their opponents picked up four shots in the last three ends of their game. The week ended on Saturday with the Ladies captain and the Men?s captain each leading a selected mixed team in the traditional ?end of season? match. Winning skips in the match were: Mike Allen, Norman Paramor, Marion Allen and Roy Northam. The match was followed by a fine tea and the presentation of trophies to the winners and runners-up in all of the club?s championship competitions. Members can now look forward to the annual meeting which takes place in the clubhouse at 7.30pm on Friday November 18 and a coffee morning on Saturday November 5.
