WEST Devon is aiming to reap some of the benefits of London?s successful 2012 Olympic Games bid. The council is to look closely at the opportunities the winning bid may have for the borough particularly in the areas of pre-Olympic training and tourism. Councillor Nick Morgan ? a former Great Britain international athlete ? is chairman of the council?s environment and community committee. Cllr Morgan, who represented his country at the shot putt in the late 1950s and early 1960s, said: ?It?s marvellous news that the London Olympic bid has been successful. ?We must now see how we can use that success to attract the visitors who come to see the Games into this area as well and also see if we can capitalise in any other way we can.? West Devon Mayor Cllr Jayne Hill said that the Olympics would have an enormous impact on an entire generation. She said: ?I am very hopeful that we will see athletes from West Devon representing our country at the 2012 Games.? West Devon has already thrown its weight behind the successful bid. Early this year a letter of support from the council was sent to the London team.
