POLICE are asking people to cease poaching wild boar on Dartmoor or they will be liable to prosecution. There have been incidents of persons poaching wild boar at Long Ash, Double Waters and adjacent areas with shotguns. Officers say such action will render individuals liable to prosecution for firearms offences, as there are very few, if any, that would be licensed to shoot these animals. There is also the danger to the public from both stray shots or rounds and wounded and distressed animals. Matters are in hand to round up these animals and deal with the problem by professionals and police are asking anyone with information on the unlawful poaching of these wild boars to contact Tavistock police station.
