MORE than £1.5 million pounds has been spent on improvements to houses by West Devon Homes this year, it was revealed at the organisation's second annual meeting recently.

Tenants, trustees, staff and guests attended the meeting, which was held at The Wharf in Tavistock.

Since West Devon Homes took over the council housing stock of the borough council, more than £3.5 million has been spent on new kitchens, central heating systems, double glazing, electrical upgrades and smoke and heat detection systems.

In addition, new developments have been built, including 16 flats and bungalows at Yelverton and the Quay development of ten flats in Tavistock, with more premises in the pipeline.

Rent rises have been pegged to inflation and a growing number of tenants and residents associations have been formed.

Derrick Pinckard, chairman of West Devon Homes, said: 'We have firmly established our public profile in the last twelve months, opening high street offices in Okehampton and Tavistock.

'Our reputation is growing as an open, accountable and well-managed company.'

And he paid tribute to the important contribution made by the staff, trustees, tenants and representatives of the company.

Paul Love, director of resources, said: 'The company continues to look at positive changes to enhance service delivery and remains committed to putting the interests of its tenants first.'
