THE great work of Get Changed Theatre Company will now be more prominently promoted in the community thanks to Okehampton Town Council. The council pledged to support the organisation with a grant of £493.06 from its grant aid fund. The organisation is using the money to purchase equipment for self publicity and promotional work. Christine Munkenbeck, chair of Get Changed, said: 'This support from the town council is really important to us, and means we can promote ourselves much more effectively in the community. It gives us resources to use when we discuss our work with local groups, which gives us a good chance to fund raise.' Get Changed provides a unique service for adults with learning disabilities in Mid and West Devon. Drama, dance and art are used as a medium for its members to develop confidence, make choices, develop life-skills and improve mental health. The charity was formed in 1995 and runs a programme of weekly workshops throughout the year, culminating in annual productions and performances. Okehampton's mayor Cllr Paul Vachon visited one of the group's weekly workshops to present the money and see the company in action. He said: 'The work of Get Changed is very important and supports a lot of people. It has been very interesting to come here today and see it with my own eyes.'
