Palladium Builders East Cornwall Division one Lifton 1 Bere Alston Utd 3 BERE Alston Utd moved closer to inactive leaders Tavistock with a win over Lifton on a bogged down pitch.  Lifton missed a great chance early on to take the lead when Tim Hutchings shot narrowly wide.  Mark Wheeler gave Bere the lead when he hit a screamer from more than 20 yards which sailed into the corner for a great goal.  Will Westlake made it 2-0 after racing clear from the halfway line. His power and speed took him past two defenders before he rounded the keeper to hit it into the net for his tenth goal of the season.  Lifton fought back and were awarded a penalty which Andy Penn converted.  Bere Alston clinched victory when Zak Beesley ran through a static defence before producing a clinical finish. Manager Kev Taylor's new signing Johno had an  outstanding game and the 18-year-old can be pleased with his performance. l On Saturday Bere are away to Tavistock and are looking for their fourth victory against the Lambs.
