Manstow FC U18s 1 Tavistock AFC U18s 2 TAVISTOCK came away with a well earned victory at Fillam Park, Ivybridge, on Sunday. Although the squad was depleted the team showed tremendous determination but found themselves a goal down at half time. More hard work and determination in the second half led to goals from Jordan Williams and Sean Cleave. At times the lead was in doubt as Manstow applied pressure looking to equalise. However, the Tavistock defence held strong to ensure the win. AFC Plympton U15s 1 Tavistock Thistles U15s 2 Plympton scored immediately from the kick-off. Thistles regrouped and quickly recovered with Niall Murphy and Ben O'Neill dominating the midfield for Thistles. Sam Newton and Sam Walker also provided the width from which new boy, Scottie Reroma, was released to unnerve the Plympton defence. Plympton cracked under the pressure and conceded a penalty after 15 minutes which Rob Wearing coolly despatched. Thistles maintained the pressure and were rewarded with a second goal 10 minutes later when, following a corner, the ball pinballed around the penalty area, before finally being slotted home by Ben O'Neill. Plympton won a succession of corners but solid goalkeeping from Jack Haigh ensured that Tavistock ended the half on top. In the second half Thistles had the biting wind behind them, and combined with a biting defence of Jay Lambert, Robin Jones, Ed Argles and Cadan Lowther, Plympton had no chance of coming back into the game and became increasingly frustrated. Tavistock Town U15s 3 Elm United 4 IN a game that Tavistock needed to win they did all but that after hitting the bar, having a shot cleared off the line on to the post, missing shots from six yards and 'giving' away two goals. Despite the loss Tavistock played well. Their player of the match Case showed resounding defensive and attacking work, Lockley was commited at the back, while Ayres and Hoar worked tirelessly in midfield. Mayne showed good positioning despite missing a couple of chances while Pridham was back at his best up front. Thompson showed his strength and Davies good touch. The end result was by no means the full story and on another day Tavistock could have come out 7-3 winners. The main positive of this game was the workrate of the team and if this continues they will no doubt pick up some more important points over the next few weeks.
