MEAVY Garden Society will offer visitors the opportunity to become a judge of flowers and plants at their Summer Flower Show on Saturday, August 13 from 1pm until 4pm at Meavy Parish Hall.

There is free parking at the rear of the hall and entry to the show will be £1 per adult.

All visitors will receive a voting slip, to select their personal choice of the best entry in each class providing competitions for cut flowers, shrubs, pot plants, flower arrangements, herbs, soft fruits and vegetables.

The votes will be aggregated to find the class winner and for each class there is a trophy for the winner to hold for a year (members only).

Entries by non-members are welcome for £1 per entry, which must be staged by noon.

A spokesperson for the Meavy Garden Society said that there will be additional classes this year, including an arrangement of garden flowers incorporating a beer bottle which is sponsored by the Royal Oak Inn, and ‘a miniature garden in a container’ competition for children of 15 years or under.

The Gordon Cross Trophy, in memory of a past president of the society, will be awarded to the person with the most highly placed exhibits in the whole show.

Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon, plants from local gardens will be on sale and there will be a raffle.
