Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 3

Bristol University 1

THE first ten minutes of this game indicated it could go either way as both teams fought for possession. The defence of Tavistock kept the opposition out of the D. Nell Trotter had an excellent game at the back and made some good strong tackles.

Sarah Barratt worked well with Laura Stapleton in midfield and these two prevented an attack coming from down the left side.

Robynne Honey, back in the squad from injury, drove the ball up the right wing and made some good crosses for Nikki Woodroffe to connect with in the D.

The first goal came from a strong ball in from Jo Gaspar with Laura Armstrong connecting at the correct time to get a hefty strike at the keeper. Fiona Dunn and Lisa Butler held firm at the back and the opposition found it hard to penetrate the defence. Goalkeeper Zoe Viggers had another excellent game in goal and although not under constant attack made some excellent saves.

The second goal came from Tavistock as Emma White and Sarah Barratt made some good two touch passes up the middle and this allowed Barratt to take the ball into the D and slot it neatly past the keeper.

Tavistock had numerous short corners awarded against them but the speed of Barratt and Dunn prevented direct shots from being made at goal.

The third goal came again from Barratt who had just narrowly missed a lovely slap onto the goal seconds earlier. This took the score at half-time to 3-0 to Tavistock.

The second half saw Bristol fight back and Tavistock's game was not as fluid as it had been in the first but the team kept strong and were never under too much pressure.

A short corner was awarded to Bristol and they took an early strike at the keeper and scored. Tavistock were keen to watch their goal averages and picked up the pressure on keeping them outside the 25-yard area.

The team look forward to the game this week which is away against Yate and Gloucester at 1pm.
