I HAVE recently returned from an amazing trek in the foothills of the Indian Himalaya for the charity ActionAid, about which you kindly published an article before my departure.

I would like to thank all friends and family in the Tavistock area who encouraged and sponsored me, as well as the following who helped me achieve this once in a lifetime trip in a suitably fit state: Kountry Kit for their excellent advice and equipment, Curves Gym, Bere Ferrers Yoga group with Christine Poole, Thursday Walk and Talk group, Slimming World and Tracy, and neighbours who accompanied me on the South West Coastal Path.

So far, I have raised £3,580 through sales, language lessons at all hours and donations. There were 17 of us in the group and between us we have raised over £77,000 to date. Having seen an ActionAid centre in Delhi before our trek, I can assure you that the money is well used and very much appreciated.

Donations can still be sent to me c/o Kelly College or made on line at http://www.myactionaid.co.uk/lizforhimalayas">www.myactionaid.co.uk/lizforhimalayas, where you will also find a short account of the trek.

I have been persuaded to give an informal talk with slides about the trip on Saturday, February 7 at 7.30 pm in the Bere Ferrers Church Hall. Everyone is very welcome and tickets (at £4 each for ActionAid, to include light refreshments but bring your own bottle) can be obtained from me on 07947 071082 or from Margaret Willmott at Alpine House, Bere Ferrers on 01822 840380.
