A FILLING station attendant foiled an attempted armed robbery last week when he refused to hand over any cash.

A man entered the filling station at Lydford, which incorporates a general store and post office, last Thursday at about 6.45pm and threatened the employee with an imitation pistol.

The attendant, who was alone in the store, twice refused to hand over money over because he did not believe the gun was real.

Eventually the man left empty handed.

The offender is described as a white male in his late 20s, unshaven with dark hair and thick eyebrows.

He is about 5ft 6ins tall, wore a black crash helmet with black and silver motorcycle jacket and spoke with an Irish accent.

He is believed to have been driving an old style white saloon car, possibly with a J prefix registration plate.

Police believe the offender is likely to be from the local area.
