TAVISTOCK Athletic Club (TAC) recently presented the Lions Club of Tavistock with a cheque for £1,000 towards their carnival charities.
The athletic club has been organising the relays and fun run since the late 1980s as its contribution to Tavistock Carnival Week. There was a record turnout of 101 teams at what was the club’s first event since Covid-19 pandemic struck in March 2020.
Club chairman Alistair Kinsey said: ‘We’re delighted the relays proved such a popular event again given everything the community has been through. Running has always brought people together in a safe outdoor environment. The club is grateful to the Lions for their support of TAC throughout the year and it is a fantastic way for us to support the Lions in their work within the Tavistock community.’
Lions president Barry Smith said: ‘Once again the relay event proved to be a fun way of raising funds for the carnival charities, this year the money will enable the Lions together with Santa, Elves and Sleigh to revive their visits to schools at Christmas. Last year these had to be cancelled but hopefully this year with this funding, presents can again be delivered and enjoyed by local children. We’d like to thank TAC most sincerely for all their hard work’. Pictured are Barry Smith, left, and Tavistock Athletic Club chair Alistair Kinsey with athletic club members and Lion Alan Wroath.
