A COMMUNITY choir will be performing a famous modern mass for peace in South Tawton to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Moor Harmony will perform The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace at St Andrew’s Church in South Tawton on Saturday evening (November 10) at 7.30pm.
The choir, whose singers all live in or near South Zeal, first performed the mass back in 2013 and are reprising it by popular demand. Refreshments available. From each ticket sale, £1 will be donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Find out more from Paul Snell at [email protected]
l CHAGFORD is holding a week-long programme of events to mark the Armistice centenary.
The church is open for visitors to view an exhibition on Chagford during the First World War. There is a cascade of woollen poppies in the church, hand-knitted by parishioners, to represent the 58 soldiers from Chagford, Gidleigh and Throwleigh who died in the war. On Armistice Day, there will be two services and a Remembrance Day parade at 10.30am. The evening commemorations will start at 7pm with lighting a beacon on Meldon Hill followed by ringing church bells.
A free parish dinner will take place in the Jubilee Hall at 7.30pm. Poppy appeal donations are welcome.
