THIS year 20 members of the Tavistock Company of Archers set off to visit their twin club of Pontivy with high hopes of bringing back the trophy. This is the eighth year of the twinning and to date neither club had won away from home. Members were met by friends from the Pontivy club and taken off to the ?Bar Tavistock? for a welcome drink and to be greeted by the President of Pontivy Archers Jean-Yves Boscher. Both clubs gathered at the indoor shooting venue of Pontivy for an evening of Crepes and local dancing. On the Sunday morning everyone was ready for a day of competition except the weather because it decided to rain, but for Tavistock archers it was like being back home. The morning session went well and the Tavistock archers were feeling quietly confident. After a lunch break shooting resumed as did the rain but it did not stop the archers from finishing the round. The scores were added up and for the first time Tavistock had won away from home on foreign soil. It was a great achievement by all the archers and the cheerleaders who had practised their dance routines for weeks. Tavistock had won by 279 points with Tavistock scoring 3662 and Pontivy 3383. It was a very successful weekend. Two junior archers David Bales and Ashley Cackett did particularly well as they had to shoot in the gents category, with Ashley only 2 points behind the second place gent. Chairman Mike Charlesworth thanked Pontivy for a magnificent few days and invited Pontivy back to Tavistock in 2006 to try and get revenge for the defeat that had been dealt upon them this weekend.
