A 22-BEDROOMED extension could be on the cards for a West Devon nursing home, if planners give the scheme the thumbs up at their meeting tomorrow (Friday). The owners of Blackdown Nursing Home want to build the single-storey extension on the rear of the property in Mary Tavy, in an area currently part of the garden. In a report to Dartmoor National Park Authority?s planning committee, planning officer Jo Burgess said the extension would provide an additional 22 bedrooms, a dining room and two lounge areas. She said: ?The changes to the care standards regulations mean that ten rooms within the existing home will be lost, ultimately resulting in a net increase of 12 bedrooms.? Ms Burgess said the proposed building would be dug into rising ground and the bulk of the extension was ?much reduced? from a previous plan and its impact was now considered acceptable to the surrounding areas. The parish council accepted the scheme but was concerned about access. There have also been objections from residents who were mainly concerned about highway issues ? but the county environment director has raised no objections on traffic matters. The planning committee is being recommended to grant planning permission.
