ANOTHER Tavistock business has recently been recognised as 'dementia-friendly'.
Bill opticians in West Street is the latest organisation in town where staff have received training to enhance their understanding of dementia.
Tavistock Dementia Action Ålliance (TDAA), which has spearheaded the campaign to make Tavistock a dementia friendly town, said it was widely accepted that knowledgeable and thoughtful service from any shop or business could be of great assistance to those with a dementia and their carers.
Optometrist Philappa Sheldon said: 'We want to support the work of the Dementia Alliance because we realise how important it is to meet all our customers' needs.
'We not only want to help people with a dementia in our shop premises, but we also pay home visits so that we can support those with a dementia and their carers to live independently and well for as long as they are able.'
Tony Parker, chairman of TDAA, said: 'The more we can increase awareness and understanding of dementia and the impact it has on individuals, families and carers, the more the town can move towards being truly dementia-friendly.
'I would encourage any shop, business or social/voluntary club to contact the alliance and we can arrange free training and distribution of booklets "Guide for customer-facing staff".'
