Tavistock A 8 Penzance A 2 WITH just three league games remaining Tavistock A mens' hockey were keen to collect all three points against a Penzance side in danger of relegation. Despite a sluggish start Tavistock took the lead, Andrews just about squeezing the ball over the line for the first of his four goals. Penzance quickly hit back to equalise after the home side failed to clear the ball effectively. This appeared to wake up the Tavistock team who began to play with a lot more tempo. Aveyard and Barratt, playing in the middle, began making good use of the space around them bringing both Willets and Doney on the wings, into the game. Heard and Andrews grabbed a goal each before half time to put Tavistock 3-1 up at the interval. George, the stand in skipper, urged the team to push on more in the second half to try to pin Penzance back. The instruction to press more bore immediate results as Heard bagged his second goal straight after the restart. However any hopes Tavistock had that they might start to pull away were dispelled after Penzance grabbed their second goal from a thunderous drive to the corner of the goal via a short corner. As with the first half Tavistock appeared to wake up once conceding and in the final fifteen minutes scored four times, Heard completing his hat trick with a well taken short corner. Andrews finished the game with four goals, but the pick of the goals came from Doney, who had already had a goal disallowed. He picked up the ball from the edge of the 'D' and smashed it home with real venom.
