THE last few days of sunshine have been a great help to the organisers of Okehampton Show, who have declared that the event is to go ahead on Thursday August 9.

With the wet weather the region has experienced this summer, many will have been reminded of the occasions in recent years where the show had to be cancelled. However, with the sunny spells and contingency plans put in place, organisers are confident this year's show will go ahead.

Show secretary Claire Woodward said: 'We are currently going full steam ahead for this year's show, and things are currently looking really good.

'The show field and the car parking fields have all been cut, and they are drying up nicely, with good drainage and this sunny spell we are enjoying at the moment. All plans are going great.

'We have had a record number of both cattle and sheep entries, which is fantastic.

'We have also had a lot of good entries in the open section and all our other categories, and it really looks like it will be a fantastic year for the show. Let's hope this sunshine continues for the show.'

Show tickets are available at Donald's Menswear, Okeford Veterinary Centre, Mole Avon, Tavistock Tourist Information Centre, and online at http://www.okehamptonshow.com">www.okehamptonshow.com
