Tavistock men B 4

Penzance B 1

THIS game was an opportunity for both sides to field players new to hockey and those with experience.

Tavistock took the game to Penzance with some dazzling play by the youngsters Sam Stanbury, his brother Dom, Chris Cowey, Dave Richards and Tom Ball. But for all the pressure Tavistock failed to score and it was Penzance who took the lead on a counter attack.

Further Tavistock pressure paid off with a well taken penalty flick by Richards.

New players Charles Bassett and Richard Brury came on and contributed some fine passing and interplay. Just before half-time Dom Stanbury broke from midfield into the box and latching onto a through pass slotted the ball elegantly passed the mesmerised Penzance keeper.

The second half was dominated by Tavistock with Nick Andrews a continual threat for the home team.

Two stalwarts, Drew Bott and Richard Stanyer came on for Tavistock and proved their talents were undiminished.

The day though belonged to the younger players with goals from Cowey and another from Dom Stanbury to put the game beyond Penzance.

The Tavistock defence had the quietest game of the season and, in an imaginative late substitution, right back Paul Mason was given his chance for glory alongside forward Luke Curno.
