A NEW mini bus is out and about providing a vital transport link for elderly and disabled people in the Tavistock area.
The new Tavistock Area Support Service (TASS) bus was purchased thanks to a much needed grant of £36,000 from Devon County Council.
County councillors Debo Sellis and Philip Sanders said they were thrilled that county money was being well used in Tavistock, in making a difference to the lives of local people.
At the official launch of the bus last week, Cllr Anne Johnson, mayor of Tavistock, said: 'I am pleased to see money being invested in local charities such as TASS, as they make a big difference to the quality of lives of local older and disabled people.
Mini buses are a lifeline to so many and I know that this vehicle will be used to benefit the people of Tavistock.
'I am amazed by the commitment of the volunteers who drive these vehicles, making a difference to so many people 365 days a year and I would like to take this opportunity in thanking them for all they do.'
Andy Lyle, general manager at TASS, said: 'This mini bus will make a difference to so many older and disabled people, as it will mean greater access to places other mini buses cannot reach. due to size and weight restrictions.'
The specialist vehicle was built by GM Coachwork, of Newton Abbott, which over the years have provided many vehicles to local people as well as TASS.
Sales manager Paul Barber said: 'We are always pleased to see our vehicles being used to benefit local groups and TASS, through their transport service, definitely make good use of the vehicles!'
