FAMILY and friends of an inspirational young woman who battled ovarian cancer for nearly a decade, are taking part in a fundraiser challenge on 28 and 29 July.

Nine teams of five will aim to complete 60 miles of running and cycling along the historic Ridgeway, stretching from Princess Risborough in Buckinghamshire to Wroughton in Wiltshire.

Among those taking part will be Alison Whitford from Tavistock.

The challengers are hoping to raise £30,000 towards the £140,000 already raised for Sophie's Legacy, set up in memory of Sophie Drury who died from ovarian cancer in April 2008. Sophie who was only 26 when she was diagnosed with the illness, but refused to let it dictate her life, continuing to pursue her love of sport.

MacMillan and Prospect Hospice in Swindon will benefit from any money raised.

Day one of the challenge will see competitors run 12km, cycle two legs of 20km each and a final run of 5km.

Day one will consist of an 8km run, 38km cycle and a 6km run to the finish line.
