THE football season may have been disrupted by foot and mouth restrictions but it did not prevent an atmosphere of celebration at the annual dinner and presentation night of Okehampton Argyle on Friday.

The disruption meant many games were missed and probably cost the second team championship of their division in the Devon and Exeter League, said first team manager and director of football Paul Adams.

The second team ended the season in third spot.

Thankes were expressed to club sponsors and to commercial manager Peter Carter for raising vital funds through the 200 Club weekly draw.

Treasurer Gordon Alexander said without sponsorship the club could not continue. He was presented with a cheque for sponsorship of the first team by Okehampton Times editor Colin Brent.

Deputy chairman Colin Maddax thanked Simon Essex, of the Fowley Manor Hotel, for his great support for the club and for allowing his staff time off to work at the Simmons Park venue. 'It's phenomenal and we all appreciate it,' he said.

Colin also expressed thanks to Roger Wills, for providing a kit-cleaning service each week, and all who helped behind the scenes to ensure the club ran smoothly.

Secretary Colin Beer thanked the three managers and the ladies who helped run the club. He voiced special thanks to Andy Butler for organising the Okehampton Cup competition.

Guests included mayor Christine Marsh and her consort, Ken Marsh, who were welcomed by club chairman John Domaille. He gave apologies for the absence, because of the general election, of club president John Burnett.

Club person of the year award went to Joyce Maddax, and, for her work with the youth teams, a presentation was made to Heather Sandercock.

The Under 17s showed their appreciation of manager Richard Bailey with a presentation to him.

Other awards were:

First team players' player and manager's player, Kevin Gill.

Second team players' player, Lee Gilbert; manager's player, Lloyd Chapman.

Third team players' player, Paddy Blatchford; manager's player, Nick Jones.

Under 17s' players' player, Rob Sandercock; top goalscorer, James Callaghan; best and manager's player, Scott Leyman; most improved player, Adrian King.

Ladies' team players' player, Jessica Burdus; manager's player, Gina Burdus.
