OPM Thirds 15

Okehampton

Acorns 17

THIS was always going to be a tough game against a side who had given the Acorns a hard game at Oaklands earlier in the season.

For the first 20 minutes it looked like Acorns would lose their first game of the season. They had to defend in numbers against a rampant OPM.

It came as so surprise when the OPMs opened the scoring with a kick ahead try which was converted. They were then awarded a penalty which saw them 10 points up.

Acorns came back from the restart and good pressure allowed hooker Ken Pollard to sprint in from 15 yards out — 10-5 half-time.

Okehampton seemed to go to sleep at the restart and this allowed OPMs to score.

Acorns kept plugging away and in the final quarter got their just reward when centre Toby Daniel, who had a fine game in defence and attack, coasted in for a fine try. Stand-in skipper Perry Vallance stroked the conversion over.

It looked as if Okehampton had left it too late after Chris Lavis had a good try disallowed. but two minutes from time fly-half Greg Vick outflanked the defence to dive over in the corner to leave Okehampton elated and OPMs deflated.

Thanks went to Ian Perrot, Dave Dawson and Stuart Hicks from the Colts team who gave 100 per cent.
