Ashmoor Academicals 2 Tavistock Tigers 1 Tavistock's first away match of the summer was against an Ashmoor side with only ten players, but what they lacked in numbers the mixed hockey side made up for in experience. Featuring a number of debutants, the Tigers started the brighter of the two teams as Bellard from defence combined well with White and Mackintosh in midfield to create a couple of early half chances. Ashmoor themselves were a big attacking threat, Pollock in defence prevented the home side from scoring a certain goal with a last second interception. The Tigers defence held firm in the first half as good contributions from both Mills and Costello prevented Ashmoor from scoring. Firth was unlucky not to score with a great chance which went wide of the far post for the Tigers, but moments later it was Tavistock who took the lead. A strong run from Bellard setting up Smallacombe, who finished from close range. Doney found himself with space on the left and could have doubled Tavistock's lead but his smart shot was well saved. When the second half started it was Ashmoor who made all the running. Despite the close interlinking play of Eadie in midfield Tavistock were conceding too much ground. Goalkeeper Osbourne was increasingly called upon as the half wore on and it was no surprise when Ashmoor equalised, their centre forward tucking the ball under the 'keeper following some good close skill. As Tavistock pressed for a winner it was Ashmoor who grabbed another quick goal. The Tigers were close to getting an equaliser late on when Smallacombe and Mackintosh both just failed to convert the superb cross from Gasper.
