THE Lambs were unfortunate to come away from Mount Wise with nothing to show for their efforts. With John Gosling and Tony Thirlby injured, Mark Wall still on honeymoon and Jason Carwardine unavailable, manager Craig Smith had no option but to put players in unfamiliar positions.

The Lambs started the better with Hodge winning a header then a tackle only to be robbed of shooting. Nathan Blamey shot at keeper Wilton and Darren Babb headed over before the Lambs had their first scare after 20 minutes. A quick breakaway by the Peppermints saw Andy Meeds rush off his line. The ball broke loose for Whitfield to shoot wide from out wide with the goal gaping open.

Changes were forced on the Lambs at half-time with Lee Beer having to be replaced. Hawkins moved back into wing back with Jaimie Carwardine coming on to make his debut - with his first touch he sent over a great cross for Hodge to see his diving header go over the bar.

The Lambs came closest to scoring on 54 minutes when Parnowski won a midfield tackle to surge forward only to see his 25-yard effort beat Wilton but come off the upright and go for a goal kick.

The home side took the lead on the hour, forcing two corners in succession — from the second Bradley Ralph headed home from close range.

Smith threw on Tony Cusack and Steve Daymond for Chris Gott and Steve Shaw in an effort to save the game and it almost worked with Daymond going up front. He combined with Carwardine to set up Hodge only to see Wilton smother his shot. The Lambs forced two more corners to no avail and Meeds saved well on full-time to prevent Newquay adding a second.

A big disappointment for the Lambs losing by the single goal but despite injuries and absences they put a spirited display.
