GARDENERS, stewards, buggy drivers and car park attendants ? they are all volunteers for the National Trust and there will be an opportunity for the public to meet them and find out about volunteering opportunities at a special event next week. Buckland Abbey will play host to the volunteers? day being held on Tuesday July 4. Pat Lovell, administrator at the abbey, said: ?We have volunteers working at Buckland between the ages of 18 and 80 and there is something here to interest everyone. ?All we ask is that you regularly give at least four hours per fortnight.? Tom Quarterly, of Tavistock, started volunteering at the abbey nine months ago and said he enjoyed the four days a week he spends with the National Trust. Rose Hamley, who volunteers as a room steward, said: ?I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, everyone is really friendly. ?I came to the recruitment day in March and I haven?t looked back ? I?m even trying to encourage my neighbour to join as a volunteer!? Anyone who would like to go to the volunteers? day, which runs from 11am until 4pm, should call Buckland Abbey 01822 853607.
