TAVISTOCK Bowling Club's last full week of fixtures turned into a disaster when they lost six matches and had one abandoned due to heavy rain.

Sunday saw a Tavistock mixed team travel to Liskeard for a return fixture, having won the home match 122-97 in May. The away match ended in a defeat for Tavistock after they won two rinks but lost on three to go down 78-106.

Skip Der Saunders and his squad of Hazel Lovell, Joan Northey and Barry Chappell won 18-14, and skip Betty Browse steered her crew of Ray Meneer, Henry Lovell and Ray Moore to a 19-18 victory, when winning the last end by one shot.

Skipper Ron Cooper (10-27), Norman Paramor (15-25) and Roy Northam (16-22) all saw their teams lose.

Wednesday's mixed home game against Torpoint resulted in an 84-111 defeat for Tavistock when they lost on four of the five rinks played.

Skip Der Saunders and his team of Val Southern, Wallace Northey and Ann Brown managed a one-shot 22-21 victory when picking up three shots on the last end, but skips Jill Lacayo (17-26), Norman Paramor (14-15), Betty Browse (18-25) and John Smith (13-24) all tasted defeat.

The season's last week of fixtures for the ladies' section got off to a poor start when Monday's match against a Gloucester County ladies' team was abandoned at the tenth end following heavy rain.

Their bad luck remained with them for the rest of the week which saw them losing in all four of their scheduled matches.

Club members can now look forward to finishing the season in style, when they take part in the annual end of season Ladies v Gents match on Saturday and book their places for the annual dinner and prize-giving on October 3 at the rugby club.
