THE new headteacher at Princetown Primary School has been welcomed with open arms by staff, schoolchildren and parents.
Alison Hirst (right), who lives in Chagford, took on the post in September and succeeded Lynne Louden, who retired after being headteacher at the school since 1994.
Alison has spent the past eight years at Copplestone Primary School where she was also acting head for one year.
She said: 'Having been an acting head for a year I saw this gave me an opportunity to work at a school on Dartmoor. When I came here and I walked around the school and the area, I knew it was for me — I love it.
'The community and parents have been incredibly welcoming and the staff have been so supportive.
'What I would like to do is develop its strong community links and its outdoor education, which is a strong philosophy of mine. I am really looking forward to the coming year.'
