A REUNION for Whitchurch Youth Club is being planned for Saturday, October 11 and all former members are being invited to attend and reminisce on the good old days. The event has been organised by Tavistock town councillor Anne Johnson, thanks to an idea from former club member Mandy Woodley. Cllr Johnson set up a Facebook page under the heading Whitchurch Youth Club and the group now has 28 members eager to meet up with old friends. Cllr Johnson said: 'When I arrived at Whitchurch Youth Club in the summer of 1973 it was well established in the village meeting on a Thursday evening from 7pm. 'It not only provided me with the opportunity to make friends but was to lead to a lifeline of working with and supporting young people. 'As a club we enjoyed many residentials including camping at Widemouth Bay and weekends at the Dartmoor Training Camp.' The reunion will be staged in the Whitchurch Village Hall from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Cllr Johnson added: 'We would love to see as many former members as possible at the reunion. It is open to all former members of Whitchurch Youth Club along with those adults who used to help out and make the experience possible.' One former member making the journey from Shropshire is Rachel Randle, neé Day. She said: 'Looking forward to catching up with old friends from Tavistock and afar who spent many happy days and nights at Whitchurch Youth Club back in the 70/80s. Thank you Anne Johnson (Blowey) for organising — it certainly will take us back a few years!'
