IN response to a recent letter concerning Remembrance Day and the reader?s view that it would have been nice if Stannary Brass Band had attended.

We are pleased that your reader thought we should be there. We would like to take this opportunity to explain why we were not.

The band has had long-standing bookings to play at two services during the day. We play at Albaston in the morning and in Bere Alston in the afternoon.

We were indeed approached by the Royal British Legion ? the organisers of Tavistock?s Remembrance Day parade ? to play at the Tavistock service and felt proud to have been asked. The problem that arises is one of timing. Our commitment to play at Albaston at an earlier time made it difficult to get to Tavistock safely, change into uniform, march and play if we were to guarantee meeting the start time.

It was very kind of your reader to ask where the band was on the day and we can assure you that if the not insurmountable problem with times could be overcome then Stannary Brass Band will be pleased to attend and support the Royal British Legion at this local event.
