SIGNWRITING methods of the 1880s have been used to give Tavistock landmark Creber's delicatessen a new look.
The outside of the building in Brook Street has been repainted, but in keeping with the established nature of the business, the owners decided the sign above the shop should reflect the traditions and quality of the fare inside it.
Crebers employed Steve Heale, of Stannary Signs, one of the few remaining craftsmen still practising the signwriting methods used when the store was established more than 125 years ago.
Mr Heale, a former Tavistock College student, is a qualified City and Guilds craftsman who was apprenticed in Devonport Dockyard in 1975 and has been using the same skills ever since.
