TIM van Eyken of Waterson:Carthy and Dr Faustus fame now takes centre stage at The Plough, Torrington this Saturday, as he revisits his solo career. A new deal with Topic Records and a long awaited new album herald the arrival of a major new name on the folk scene. Tim has assembled a stellar cast to record his new album in Nancy Kerr, Pete Flood, Olly Knight and Colin Fletcher. The result of their collaboration is 'Stiffs, Lovers, Holymen, Thieves' released in June 2006. This new band is Van Eyken who will be making their debut performance at The Wychwood Festival before the release of the album on June 26. Following this will be appearances at a number of prestigious Summer Festivals from Cambridge to Sidmouth and a major tour in November. Those who saw Tim van Eyken win the 1998 BBC Young Folk Award knew there would be a glittering career ahead of this engaging young musician with a passion for traditional English music. His debut album 'New Boots' received excellent reviews and his career as a solo artist looked promising. Then an offer came along that he just couldn't refuse. Folk's first family invited him to become the fourth member of Waterson:Carthy and he has recorded and toured the world with them for the last five years. It was an apprenticeship of a life-time and the experience has not only honed his instrumental skill but also seen him develop into one of the most assured and captivating singers around. Tim has also been fundamental to the success of the supergroup Dr Faustus. Now Tim van Eyken has again turned his attention to his solo career. Fiddler Nancy Kerr, percussionist Pete Flood (Bellowhead), guitarist Oliver Knight (Lal Waterson's son and collaborator) and upright bass player Colin Fletcher are his accomplices in a new venture sure to herald the long awaited return of 'one of Britain's great young hopes' (Daily Telegraph).
