REFERENCE the feature on the Rock Inn, Yelverton (July 9).
Due to some misunderstandings in the feature I would like to honour the life of Guy Langton.
Guy and his brother George were directors of the Rock Hotel. George was the manager of the bars, and Guy was manager of the hotel.
Far from being in a soap opera, Guy was an intelligent, honourable and extremely interesting man. He was sociable and popular, and was held in respect by all who knew him. He returned from the last world war (spending arduous years in the desert) having earned several medals.
He was married three times. I was his wife for over 17 years. He considered himself to have seven children, one more than his brother, George.
In 1982 he decided to sell his half of The Rock to his brother. Guy had been suffering from ill health for some time.
When it was closed in the 60s he became manager of the letting side of the business.
A kind and generous man who should have written a book. A book on his wartime experiences, his disapointments, and his friends.
