PARISHIONERS at Gulworthy are literally trying to the raise the roof in the next few months to generate money for the parish hall.

The Gulworthy Parish Hall committee, along with ladies from Gulworthy WI are going to host a series of events to raise more than £50,000 for a new roof and a modernisation of the building.

Sarah Sampson, a committee member, said: 'The parish hall serves the large and diverse parish of Gulworthy and attracts users from Tavistock and its environs too. Because there is no village centre the hall relies on its regular users such as the WI, pre-school and musical groups for funds.

'We are hoping that Gulworthy parishioners and those from Tavistock will come along and support us. The parish hall is a local asset and needs vital repairs so please come along and help save your hall.'

The first event is on Wednesday, September 24, with a bingo night and cash prizes — 'eyes down' is at 7.30pm in the hall.

On Saturday, December 13 a Christmas Bazaar and sale will be held from 2pm to 4pm with local crafts, fresh mistletoe and a variety of stalls, games and refreshments.

A Christmas Tree Festival is also planned for December 12, 13 and 14. Twenty-six themed trees, decorated by community groups, will be on display.
