NEARLY 60 children from three West Devon primary schools enjoyed a day out in the capital recently, when they had the opportunity to tread the corridors of power with MP John Burnett.
The youngsters, from Exbourne, Highampton and Northlew primary schools, left West Devon at dawn to make the trip to Westminster, where they were met at Sovereign?s Entrance by Mr Burnett.
They had a guided tour through the royal apartments, following the same route taken by the Queen at the state opening of parliament, visited the chamber of the Lords as well as the Commons, continued to the 900-year-old Westminster Hall and enjoyed a well-earned stop at the visitors? café.
Following refreshments, the children enjoyed a complete change of scene as they visited the very modern Portcullis House, where they had a question and answer session with Mr Burnett.
After their visit to parliament, the children had a picnic lunch in the sun before rounding off an exciting day in London with a trip on the famous London Eye.
One of the children from Exbourne School told her teacher Celia West that the day had been so memorable, she would tell her grandchildren about it!
