THE Garden House at Buckland Monachorum has launched its annual search for an ambitious young gardener to take his or her first steps in horticulture.
The William and Helena Heath Scholarship enables a young gardener ? aged under 35 ? with basic horticultural qualifications to work at the leading visitor attraction for a year, with the intention of providing a ?dream start to a new career?, a spokesman for the Garden House said.
?He or she will work under the guidance of manager Keith Wiley, a pioneer in the field of new naturalism, known all over the world for his inspirational design and planting,? he said.
The scholarship was made possible by a bequest from the late Mrs Dorothy Harris in memory of her parents. It was invested by the Fortescue Garden Trust which administers the garden. The income is used to pay the salary of the Heath scholar.
Keith Wiley said the intention was that the scholar would have the benefit of a year?s hands-on practical experience at a major botanical garden with an international reputation, which would look great on his or her CV and arm them with exactly the knowledge and experience needed to start their career.
Applicants can write to William and Helena Heath Scholarship, The Garden House, Buckland Monachorum, Yelverton, PL20 7LQ enclosing a stamped, addressed envelope, or call 01822 854769 or email: [email protected]">[email protected]
