Carlsberg South Western League St Blazey 6 Callington Town 1 IT was a depleted Town side that took to the field against a strong Saints outfit and most of the chances in the first half came to St Blazey. But that hides some good defending from the Callington back four and some great goalkeeping from man of the match Vinnie Bowman. The opening St Blazey goal on 35 minutes needed to be good to beat Bowman - it was. Glynn Hooper fired an unstoppable shot from the right of the area that beat the keeper and broke the net in the process. But Callington are made of stern material and five minutes later a through ball found Craig Wassell free and he calmly placed the ball wide of the Saints keeper to the delight of the small band of Town supporters amongst the 120 crowd. Early in the second half Callington almost took the lead when a free kick from Pete Floyd went narrowly wide but then Town?s world began to collapse around them. First, Wassell was injured and had to be replaced which, with Ricky Hart?s half-time departure, left Callington with no recognised striker. The shuffling around that Mark Skerton had to do left the back more exposed. Saints recognised this and were ruthless in their attacks. Hooper regained the lead for the home side on 65 minutes and a minute later Jamie Densham headed home their third to seal the match. Callington?s makeshift side pressed for a way back but could not find the way through. At the other end Saints continued to score with Hooper completing his hat-trick before Dale Band weighed in with two late goals. This may look another hammering but the signs of improvement were there to cheer the Town faithful. On Saturday, Callington are at Ginsters Marshfield Parc for the visit of fourth-placed Falmouth Town in the Carlsberg South Western League. Kick-off 7.30pm.
