NATIONAL and local talent will come together in a series of great concerts in Okehampton during coming months, to celebrate the 20th birthday of music charity The Wren Trust.
The Okehampton-based Trust has organised many musical and cultural events in Devon since its inception 20 years ago, including the famous annual Sabine Baring Gould festival. It also works extensively with schools and groups throughout the area to encourage enjoyment of music.
The concerts, which will take place on the last Saturday of every month, will be held at the Octagon Theatre at Okehampton College ? the first event being held on Friday March 29.
The concert series kicks off with West Devon favourite Bill Murray, featuring his own special brand of amusing stories and songs. The Wren team of musicians will be performing too, with fantastic songs from Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson, English and French bagpipe music from David Faulkner and local fiddle tunes from Nick Wyke.
Future concerts will play host to such stars as Frankie Armstrong, Simon Care (The Albion Band, E2K) and Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman of Equation. Tim van Eyken (Dr Faustus) was being confirmed as the Times went to press.
The bar at all the events will be provided by the CAMRA North Devon Local Pub of the Year 2003, the Plymouth Inn of Okehampton.
Wren Trust hope the concerts will be a great opportunity for people in the Okehampton and surrounding areas to listen to quality live music at the bargain ticket price of just £5/£3 concessions.
The concerts begin at 8pm (bar opens 7.30pm) and run until 10pm.Tickets available on the door or in advance from Wren Trust, telephone 01837 53754.
