OXFAM in Tavistock has received a generous donation of books from a local literary blogger.
'Dovegreyreader' aka Lynne Hatwell from Milton Abbot, has donated more than 50 boxes of books to the Oxfam Bookshop. Almost all new, they are books that publishers, authors and others in the industry send to Lynne in the hope of it being reviewed on
her blog, dovegreyreader.typepad.com
Lynne is a regular participant at the annual Port Eliot Festival at St Germans where the 'Dovegreyreader' tent is a feature. It was there that Val Sharpe, manager of the Oxfam Bookshop, met her and her husband, Dave.
Val said: 'It was a real pleasure to meet Lynne and Dave as dovegreyreader is followed internationally with over a thousand readers every day. I had been told about the blog by one of my volunteers who knows Lynne personally through work as community nurses together, so I found the blog and have been following it ever since.
'At the end of January this year, Dave phoned, asking if Oxfam would like all these beautiful books that had accumulated, as well as many from Lynne's personal library.'
Val said the volunteers will be sorting through the books and getting them into the shop for others to enjoy over the next few months.
A large amount of the books are brand new fiction, both paperback and hard back, but there is also a large range of biography, literary criticism, history and travel.
Some of the books will be going to the Oxfam shop in Okehampton.
'Oxfam is hugely grateful to both Lynne and Dave for their decision to make this donation,' said Val.
There are opportunities for volunteers to join the Oxfam team. Anyone who may be interested in finding out more can contact Val at the shop on 01822 613901.
