A BREAK-IN at Bere Alston Primary School and fly tipping feature in this week’s police desk.

• An incident of fly-tipping took place at Pixie’s Holt over the weekend of February 18/19.

What appeared to be a small lorry load of unwanted materials was tipped. Among the items was an old bedstead.

If you have an idea who may be responsible or if you know of someone who has recently paid for a house clearance or similar, let the police or West Devon Borough Council know. Contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number CR/13077/17.

• Bere Alston Primary School was subject to a break-in at 5.30am on Saturday, February 25.

The burglar or burglars smashed a window and climbed through into a classroom. Alarm systems were triggered and police believe it was this which probably caused the burglars to leave empty-handed. Police said break-ins at primary schools are usually aimed at stealing IT equipment, which is actually pointless as all schools have stringent security marking on their equipment these days, or are local people out on a ‘dare’ that all too often ends up with them getting a criminal record.

DC Thielmann at Tavistock is investigating the case and would like to hear from anyone who has any information. CR/14122/17.

• A man and his wife were subjected to foul language when they asked a lady who parked in a disabled bay at Yelverton Parade to display her blue badge.

The lady, who appeared to be fully able-bodied, told them to mind their own business in ‘colourful’ language and returned to the car a short time later carrying a full load of shopping.

She once again exchanged words with the people who challenged her before driving off. The incident happened on Tuesday, February 21 at lunchtime. CR/12893/17.
