POLICE have increased patrols in the Tavistock area following a rise of vandalism.
Over the past three months, police have received reports of incidents in the Meadows.
A Tavistock police spokesperson said: ‘Police have increased patrols of the area when possible and would like to hear from anyone who may have information which may assist us in identifying the individual/s who may be causing such damage.’
Incidents were:
• Lamp post at Benson Meadow/skate park pulled down by moped, causing £3,300 of damage. The incident took place on October 28 between the early morning and 8pm. CR/109193/19.
• Hurricane swing (set fire to trapeze), costing £428.36.
• Offensive graffiti at skate park and bandstand ‘at least half a dozen times’ and dealt with immediately by on-call staff.
• Broken glass at youth shelter, bandstand and play area.
• Damage to youth shelter (metal panels bent), awaiting quote for repair.
• Graffiti/damage to benches and picnic tables.
• Sensory Garden bench moved twice (ending up in canal once). CR/109179/19.
• Sign in toddler play area ripped off and thrown in canal.
• Band stand roof smashed (timber panels on underside).
• Branches and tree supports on trees snapped off.
• Smashed car window near Green hut.
• Moped/motorbike tyre tracks and skid marks on grass.
• Chains taken off basket swing.
• Marijuana paraphernalia in youth shelter.
