MORE than 300 works of art will be displayed during the 50th annual exhibition staged by Tavistock Group of Artists this summer. And this year, to commemorate the 50th anniversary, the group is hoping children will take up their pens, paintbrushes or pencils and enter a special competition being run by the group. The exhibition is being staged in the town hall between Saturday June 25 and Sunday July 3. Dennis Taylor, spokesman for the TGA, said: ?Over 300 works will be shown, covering a wide range of topics in a variety of media ? prints, cards and craft items will also be displayed. ?Because it is our 50th anniversary, we wanted to make the exhibition a bit special, that?s why we have contacted 15 primary schools in the area in the hope we can get the children involved.? The children?s art competition will include three classes, for youngsters in years 4, 5 and 6. Entries on the theme of Tavistock market town are being invited ? and there are £25 prizes for the winners of each class, with the entries being displayed alongside the main exhibition. The competition will be judged on the exhibition preview day, Friday June 24. Opening times for the exhibition will be from 9.30am until 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays ? entrance is free.
