Bideford 24

Okehampton 24

ANYBODY that follows Okehampton must know what it is like to be on a roller-coaster ride; up and down all the way.

Okes finally came back from a 17-point deficit at one stage for a draw when it should have been a cricket score.

Yet again, failure to convert chances where overlaps were spurned, cutting back inside looking for tackles instead of taking the outside, bad passing or just wrong options. Fair play to the hosts who came out fighting and deservedly scored two converted tries and a penalty to lead 17-0.

Okes finally managed to convert one of several first half opportunities for Pengelly to touch down in the corner where Searle converted.

To give Okes some credit they declined to kick six penalty chances and entertained the crowd by attempting to play open rugby.

The second period saw Bideford backs to the wall defending, with Okes pulling several loose plays together and good combinations of forwards and backs moves.

Pengelly had a second try and there were others for Mason and Mugleston with one further Searle conversion

Bideford's only second half points were courtesy of a great pass from out half Bickle — unfortunately it was straight to their winger.

All in all a draw was fair to both sides and nobody had any real complaints, with the exception of Okes 1st and 3rd having to change in an 8ft by 8ft box room.
