ON a cool, damp evening five junior members and two seniors from Tavistock Athletic Club competed in round three of the Armada Network's Summer 5K series at Saltram Park, Plympton.

First TAC to the finish and first junior was U17 Samuel Lane De Courtin. Sam stormed round the hilly course in a fast 17 minutes 39 seconds, achieving a season's best (SB) time by 12 seconds. Two U15s were next to the finish — Jasmine Gray in 23.03 and Charlie Shipton in 23.29. Charlie also recorded a SB as he knocked more than a minute off his last month's time.

Next home, U17s Jennifer Sabine achieved her SB time, finishing in 24.46, while the youngest TAC entrant, U13s Lee Shipton who was running the race for the first time, competed strongly to finish in 27.21.

For the two adults, Richard Best finished in 18th place overall, in a fast 21.52, while Jason Shipton ran with his younger son, Lee.

The following weekend, eleven club runners took part in the seven mile Burrator Horseshoe Run in less than ideal conditions, with a strong headwind and very soft ground.

U20 James Best was first TAC home in overall fifth place in a 44mins 21secs and Jo Meek also excelled, being first lady to the finish in 47.05 — despite being up to her neck in the Gutter Tor bog.

U17 James Anderson finished third junior in 49.27. Richard Best, Edmund Doyle, Andy Houghton, Paul Waldron and John Harfoot all finished in under the hour, Andy running a personal best, while Adrian Pitcher and Andrew and Helen Alcock finished in just over.
