Bodmin ladies 1
Okehampton ladies 2
WITH Bodmin newly promoted to South Division as well, Okehampton wanted to secure their third win of the season.
Both teams fought from the start. Nicki Pedrick, Anna Speak (player of the match) and Laura Parsons in Oke’s defence were soon put under pressure and Alice Wiseman made some crucial saves.
Sophie Whiteley and Jess Medland linked together well through the middle to push the ball further up the pitch spreading the ball out to the wingers Sophia Marshall and Molly Marvin. Marvin passed the ball neatly to Jo Moppett who slipped it wide of the goal.
Play continued, end to end, and Oke forwards Hannah Whiteley and Lesley Bingham were unlucky not to score. Just before half time, Oke had the upper hand. Emily Rowlands slipped the ball to a waiting Moppett who drilled it on her reverse into the back of the net, ably helped by a Bodmin defender.
After a quick half time chat, Oke knew that bottom team Bodmin would come out fighting. The defence worked extremely well together and Speak made some excellent clearances.
Oke built their attack again and after a series of short corners and an unconverted flick, they were rewarded with Speak slamming the ball in the goal making the score 2-0.
Bodmin fought right back and with an unfortunate card for Moppett, Oke were down to 10 women and under pressure.
Bodmin were rewarded two minutes from time making the score 2-1 at the final whistle.
