Tavistock firsts 10

East Culm Valley Hornets 0

TAVISTOCK maintained their 100% start to the season with an emphatic win against ECV Hornets.

Skipper Tom Honey filled in at centre back and forward Simon Fenwick replaced Honey in the centre of midfield. The re-shuffle did not cause any problems. Tavistock started the match with a clear desire to score the opening goal and what a goal it was — Sam Willetts picked up the ball on the left hand side of the pitch 30 yards from goal and after beating four defenders he calmly smashed the ball past the keeper to score.

The lead was soon doubled when Mark Forshaw flicked the ball high into the net from a penalty corner.  The lead should have been extended further but Fenwick had a penalty stroke saved by the Hornets’ keeper.

Soon after Tavistock scored their third goal when Willets deflected the ball past the keeper from a well worked penalty routine.

Early in the second half Tavistock scored their fourth when Fenwick and Forshaw linked well at another penalty corner, which resulted in Forshaw again flicking high into the net.

Tom Honey moved into his more accustomed midfield role and it had the desired effect when he cooly flicked the ball past the keeper following more good work front the Reds’ frontline.

A fine solo run and strike from Ollie Richards gave Tavistock a 6-0 lead mid way through the second half, fellow midfielder Dom Stanbury picked up a loose ball to score following a flick at goal from Megicks, which had been well saved by the keeper. Megicks almost scored moments later following a run by Fenwick but as the ball was pulled back towards Megicks it was turned into the goal by the defender.

The hard working Richards scored his second goal after sprinting 50 yards to catch up with a quick Tavistock counter attack. After winning the ball on his own 25 yard line Stanbury turned  defence into attack with a quick run and long ball to Megicks, who showed the composure to drive the baseline before slipping the ball to Richards to smash it into the goal.  It was fitting that the 10th and final goal was scored by man of the match Sam Willetts. After winning the ball in midfield Fenwick took the ball past a couple of defenders before finding Willetts, who slapped the ball past the keeper to claim his first hat trick for Tavistock.
