CYCLING club the Tavistock Wheelers were one of several Tavistock Sports Clubs to provide taster events at last Saturday's 'Super Saturday' Olympic legacy day at Tavistock Sports Centre.

The cycling taster was well attended, no doubt fuelled by the Tour of Britain fever that had gripped the area the weekend before.

Geoff Whitlow, the chairman of Tavistock Wheelers, said: 'As well as providing an opportunity to ask club members about Wheelers activities, the club put on a challenge of how far challengers could go in one minute on a fixed "turbo" bike. The short time was chosen to accommodate as many challengers as possible.

'The youngest trying the challenge was seven years-old and the oldest 94. There were very good performances from young Wheelers, Peter Jarman and James Anderson, who came joint second and third, but it was left to top Wheelers' rider Josh Bullock to see off all challengers, with an average speed of over 25 mph, without ever leaving the Sports Centre of course!'
