Devonport Services U16s 15

Tavistock U16s 19

DEVONPORT Services knew time was up and had to score with the last play of the match. Surely if Tavistock could just get their hands on the ball and kick it out the win would be secured.

However the home team maintained possession with attack after attack , each seemingly on the point of breaking the thin red line but to no avail as tackle after tackle repulsed the boys in blue.

The finale had been set up after Tavistock looked strong in the first half leading 12-0. Callum and Harry put in some good hits setting up James who ran across the pitch and off loaded to Arbie who accelerated to score in the corner.

Both Jo and Jo had strong games finally getting their body position low enough to drive forward and hand off well. Harvey had a great game at number 10 with Jay securing both a try and vital kicked points. Callum did well for the last try to end a great game.

Cullompton U15s 18

Okehampton U15s 12

NOT having played Cullompton for a number of years the visitors did not know what to expect other than it was going to be a tough battle in this Devon Junior Cup first round match.

Cullompton were the first to score early on from their strong running full back. This was a wake up call for Okehampton who sprang into action and started to apply pressure.

The remainder of the half seem to be all Okehampton, camping mainly in Cullompton 22 meter area. Credit to the home side as any score from the pressure never came due to some sturdy defence.

Cullompton entered the away teams half twice and twice they scored, leaving the score 15-0 at half time.

The second half started as physical as the first with Okehampton trying to find their first score and Cullompton trying to put the game out of reach.

After some strong running it was Okehampton who scored first by the way of Jack Dickinson stretching for the line. The pressure was starting to be put on the home side and Okehampton building with confidence. Cullompton were awarded a penalty from out wide of the posts, which they converted to relieve the pressure.

Okehampton not to be out done replied with a try from Joe Mawle crashing through from a line out.

The pressure was put back onto Cullompton and for the remainder of the game. As with the first half the pressure did not result in any points and the score remand the same until the final whistle. On a different day maybe Okehampton would of come away with a win but the whole team should take pride and confidence in the way they performed in a competitive game of rugby.

Tavistock U15s/Crediton U15s girls 0

Exeter U15s girls 65

THE scoreboard would suggest this was one way traffic. this was far from the truth.

Seven girls from Tavistock joined up with nine girls from Crediton to play Exeter, the strongest girls team on the circuit.

There was a gap in experience and pace between the two sides that was exploited in the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes.

However in between the Tavistock girls gave a good account of themselves. Alice, Rosie and Ellie made countless tackles, but star of the show for a series of try saving tries on the wing was Lauren.

With ball in hand Ellie, Ellana and Lizzie made a lot of breaks but  lack  of cohesion and support meant that when they were tackled the ball was turned over. George also got stuck in.

Exeter were excellent with Jen and Boo, their two county players outstanding.

Player of the match for Tavistock was Lizzie for her running and courage.

Tavistock girls would love to see new members join the club - a three week try out is free of charge, training for the U15s is on Thursday nights. If you are interested call 01822 616862.

Devonport Services U14s 29

Okehampton U14s 10

AFTER a bright start, Okehampton failed to make first up tackles and paid the price.

Oke were up for this cup match and took the game to their strong hosts in the opening exchanges. The Oke forwards deserve great credit for their performance throughout, and they set the platform for the opening score. Oke number eight Greg Daniel, immense again throughout, stole ball at a maul and powered over after just five minutes.

Devonport had strong powerful runners in their back line, and they tried to keep the ball away from the visitors' physical eight. Their strong running right winger was a thorn in Oke's side all match, and he soon levelled the scores as he ploughed through weak Oke's wide defence.

Okehampton were a match for their opponents throughout the first half though, and soon retook the lead after winger Henry Harbron strongly ran back a weak defensive kick for their second try.

They failed to hold the lead until the turnaround, as failure to find touch from a penalty kick saw the score level at 10 apiece at the break.

The second half was really disappointing for the visitors, as poor passing and defence amongst Oke's midfield saw the good work of their pack go unrewarded. Basic missed tackles allowed Devonport's backs to run in the soft length of the field tries to seal the win.

Okehampton now have to concentrate on the plate as they go away to practice their handling and tackling before their next encounter.

Ivybridge U13s 17

Tavistock U13s 5

AFTER losing by 36 points six weeks ago to Ivybridge it was with high hopes that the team could reduce the margin and even turn over Ivybridge in their own patch.

A solid start from both teams saw the score still at nil-nil after 20 minutes but it was Ivybridge who stole the ball near the Tavistock line and then laid it off to score first. Tremendous work from the visiting front row of Joe, Jason and Archie Allen meant Tavistock secured a lot of the ball but just could not turn possession into points.

The score was 7-0 at half time and Tavistock were right in the game, but a couple of slipped tackles let Ivybridge in with a second try early in the second half.

The Tavistock wingers and full back, in Conner, James and Jude, were the fastest three players on the pitch and after a few speedy runs, it was Jude who made it through to within yards of the try line. Ivybridge stole the ball and tried to clear their lines but the ball was charged down by Lachlan who dived on the ball to score a try.

With the score at 12-5 Tavistock were right back in the game. Hunter, Luke, George and Jacob in the backs were all trying their hardest. In the last five minutes George broke through the last man, after stealing the ball but some slipped tackles let Ivybridge into the corner to finish the game at 17-5.

The Tavistock team went away knowing how close the game was, pleased with the work they put in, and knowing how much they have improved in just six weeks.

Okehampton U12s 40

South Molton U12s 14

OKEHAMPTON won a hard fought game, after sustained pressure from South Molton in the opening ten minutes.

Molton came at the Okes with all guns blazing, but were unable to breakdown a resilient Oke defence, despite some great rucking by the visitors.

The home side responded well with two quick fire tries from Cole Pengelly (1) and Saul Holliday (1).  Greg Haste (1) followed this up with another, after good hands by the backs.

South Molton pulled one back before the break, but a resurgent Okes improved their rucking and scrummaging after making some changes.

Daniel Wonnacott (1) shot over in the corner after a quick tap penalty, while Charlie Glanville (1) touched down after making some crunching tackles.  Back came Molton with a good rolling maul, managing to score another, after good driving by their forwards.

Okehampton rounded off the scoring with a sniping Scrumhalfs try from the hardworking Joshua Burgoyne (1).  A mention must also go to the improving Jack Rutley, who worked hard throughout the game.  Conversions came from Joshua Burgoyne (3) and James Close (2).

Ivybridge U12s 19

Tavistock U12s 21

TAVISTOCK faced a well drilled Ivybridge side on Sunday. The scene was set from the kick off with both sides tackling hard and rucking ferociously for possession.

It led to a fairly even but physical game with the first score coming from some good backs play from Ivybridge finding a gap in the, up until then, tight Tavistock defence.

Tavistock equalized after Noah Berridge emerged from the back of a maul to dart through the defence and touch down. Another five minutes of physical rugby lead to Ivybridge taking the lead only for Henry Varndell-Dawes to burst through for Tavistock's second. The only difference at half time being a missed conversion by Ivybridge. Ivybridge came out ahead in the set piece honours with a disruptive line out and strong scrummaging.

The second half continued in a similar vein with Tavistock centres Ollie Sampson, Edward Tait and Tom Scott holding the line with some excellent tackling. James Roisetter gained control in the Tavistock lineouts and the improved possession allowed Henry Varndell-Dawes the space to push Tavistock ahead - only for Ivybridge to reply again with more good backs work. Stand outs in the pack were Harry Richardson and Matt Davey for their tackling and pressure with James Kenyon and Noah Berridge bossing the mauls and ripping the ball. Tavistock conversions came from Harry Edwards and at the final whistle the only thing separating the teams was the missed Ivybridge conversion in the first half.

Ivybridge U12s 7

Tavistock 12s 21

TAVISTOCK moved players around and found the opposition a little less ferocious. This gave Tavistock the confidence to run in three tries – Luke Edwards with a well deserved try after a jinking run from the wing; Harry Richardson diving over in the corner after moving the ball quickly through the hands from a penalty and James Kenyon receiving an assist from Henry.

Jaxom Cann and Dylan Owen added their muscle to the forward effort in an all round team effort against some strong opposition. James Kenyon was player of the match with his hunger for the ball.

Tavistock  U11s 14

Ivybridge U11s 24

GAMES against Ivybridge are always tough affairs, and this one lived up to its billing.

With all 11 Tavistock players available and raring to go, the team gave one of their best ever performances against a side with a far bigger squad.

With the referee playing a lot of advantage, Tavistock dominated the scrum, ruck and maul with Katherine, Logan and Alexis getting stuck in from start to finish, with help from Tom, Billy and William.

Despite being 12-0 down at half time, Isaac, Toby, George and Daniel kept their heads up and ran hard at their larger opponents, creating some great opportunities.

Some terrific tackling from Daniel, Toby L and George enabled Tavistock to get back to 19-14, with tries from Daniel and Toby and it looked like a major upset might be on the cards. However, Ivybridge put together some good rugby to stay ahead with the final try. Isaac ran a really good kicking game.

Tavistock player of the match for her work at maul and ruck was Katherine a great credit for all her hard work and commitment.

Okehampton U7s 12 tries

Tavistock U7s 2 tries

Tavistock U7s 4 tries

Ivybridge U7s 5 tries

Edward scored to take the home side ahead but Ivybridge quickly came back. Gabriel made some great runs from the back of the pitch and was finally rewarded with a try.

Despite some great team work though, Ivybridge scored right on the whistle to win the game.

Tavistock U7s 6 tries

Ivybridge U7s 3 tries

THERE was good running rugby from Tavistock with the boys really looking for the passes. Some excellent play between Jack,William and Alastair led to Jack scoring the first try. He then went on to score two more.

The team were all looking for space in a well drilled Ivybridge side, but Nathan found a gap to run up the wing to score Tavistock's fourth try. Alastair took the fifth before Jack scored his fourth try.

THIS was an evenly matched game with every Tavistock player getting on the score sheet. The first two tries went to Jack, scored after some great passing from the boys. It was then two tries apiece for William A, Nathan and Alastair before William and Jack both got their hat trick. Jack was player of the week.

Tavistock U7s 7 tries

Ivybridge U7s 10 tries

Tavistock U7s 8 tries

Ivybridge U7s 8 tries

ANOTHER evenly matched and hard fought game. Some great runs from the boys and great supporting play. For their efforts Matthew scored three tries, Dominic four and Fergus one.

MOUNT House School's had a thrillilng 36-33 win against Tavistock College Year 8. Mount House tries from Bertie Hughes, Joe Beck and Jonty Walliker gave them House a comfortable 29-10 half time lead.

Tavistock changed tactics in the second half, driving the ball with their heavier forwards and scored a succession of converted tries. In injury time Ludo De Falbe stole an opposition line out, fine handling moved the ball into Joe Beck's hands and he skirted the opposition defence to score under the posts and win a thrilling game for Mount House 36-33.

The Mount House Colts A started well against Stover, winning virtually all the ball both in the loose and set pieces. Four first half tries resulted. Stover improved significantly and the second half was much more even, both sides scoring a try as Mount House ran out comfortable winners by 29-5.
