Tavistock U18s girls 67

Plymouth Albion U18s girls 37

FROM the kick-off, Annabel Longdon's kick barely reached the 10 metre line. Lauren Dawe advancing quickly grabbed the ball and offloaded to Emily Kneale who charged through to score under the posts with barely 30 seconds on the clock.

Slick inter-passing of the ball by the three-quarters and on to the forwards quickly resulted in two further tries by Beth Hodgkiss and Kim Upcott.

Plymouth are a fit team and bounced back with a try, but two more tries from Lucy Jones, Flo Rodgers and great set piece try by Alice Upcott punctuated by two further Plymouth tries, brought the score to 37-17 by half time.

Plymouth came out of the blocks fighting and soon scored two tries, but by last ditch tackling Tavistock kept out Plymouth on two further occasions when a Plymouth score looked inevitable. Tavistock countered with three further tries from Lauren Dawe and one from front row forward Beth Hodgkiss who out-sprinted the Albion centres to score under the posts. Albion scored a consolation try. For Tavistock Annabel Longdon converted six of the tries.

The girls' teams are running a fun day for anyone interested in girls' rugby starting at 10am on Saturday at Tavistock Rugby Club. All ages from 11 to 18 are welcome.

North Okes U16s 41

Tavistock U16s 10

OKEHAMPTON won this friendly against a most improved Tavistock side. North Okes were all over the opposition and scored in the eighth minute from a well crafted move.

However, Tavistock scored not long after to make it 5-5. North Okes regained the lead through a well drilled backs moved finished off by Rhys Palmer. Ben Sharp then dived on the ball making a well earned try.

The second half then saw North Okes tries through Oli Francis and Conor Stevens. Okes had some good conversions courtesy of George Courtier. The backs then showed a slick sequence of team skills resulting in a try, as Declan Coyle stormed over the line. Robbie Griffiths had a superb game while this was a well deserved North Okes team victory.

Tavistock U15s 41

Ivybridge U15s 21

Finn puts the ball in the scrum a fast heel from Joe switched the ball blind to Harry to feed Charlie; quick hands to centres Tom and Matt. The forwards arrive to take the offload the ball until the move had involved over half the team ending with Morgan flying salmon like flew over the line for a touchdown.

The home team knew that they were in form and could turn over a strong Ivybridge side and so it was to be with outstanding performances from a number of individuals gelling together to make for a fine collective performance.

The forwards had a cracking game with unflinching commitment from Jay, Joe H and Callen. At times it appeared we had two captains on the pitch as he was at every breakdown, every tackle, every breakthrough. Matt and the fly halves kicked really well although Tavistock were always keen to run it through the hands.

Jack's efforts for Tavistock were thwarted by a desperate last man tackle from Ivybridge.

Ivybridge to contribute to such a good game and well done to Angus who was unstoppable in the loose and fearless in the tackle.

IN the first five minutes Plymouth scored twice as the newer players

adjusted to the pace of the game. However the Tavistock tackling improved with Chloe, Lily Hillson and Lizzie

Crocker making some good tackles. Through strong runs through Lizzie,

Rebecca and Lily Mills, Tavistock got some field position. Lizzie

made a 50 metre break and was well supported by Chloe, Alice and

Rebecca before Lily Mills popped over for a try.

At half time the score was 12-5 to Albion and straight after the break Plymouth scored again.

For the next 15 minutes Tavistock played well with some good runs from Lydia, Ellen, and Alice and some good tackling from Emma, Eleanor and especially Lily Hillson. Leading from the front, Lizzie Crocker scored to bring Tavistock back to a one try gap. Time and again Lizzie, Lily H and Lily M attacked the Plymouth line but could not get over. In the last minute the Plymouth winger went the whole length of the pitch to stretch their lead.

Tavistock U14s 14

Ivybridge U14s 27

TAVISTOCK U14s came unstuck against a well organised Ivybridge side that quickly had the measure of the conditions and slope of the pitch.

The away side kicked well into the corner and this led to two unconverted tries at the beginning of the first half. Tavistock rallied and Ben Milligan scored under the posts after strong forward drives from Ben Luke and Harry Jeans.

The Tavistock forwards acquitted themselves well and had the measure of Ivybridge in the scrum. Greg Cottrell and Chris Watts worked hard in the loose play tackling and turning ball over.

In the second half Ivybridge scored a third unconverted try but Ben Milligan brought Tavistock back to within a point with his second try after running the ball from deep within his own half; George Hillson converted.

In the last quarter Tavistock ran out of steam and their opponents scored two further tries and a conversion.

Launceston U13s 19

Okehampton U13s 10

MISSING the prolific Leon Horn, and with only only 14 players, the Okes put on a much improved performance.

Okehampton started well but some early missed tackles which allowed the Launceston right winger to run in virtually unopposed form his own half for the opening score. This was converted to make it 7-0.

The visitors were then under pressure once more as Launceston drove towards their goal line. Stout defence rebuffed the hosts though, and a swift Oke breakout up the right flank saw centre Ollie Arden in the clear. He was caught short of the line but superb support from prop Ethan Hoggins saw the front rower take a pop pass and cross in the right corner. The Okes were back in it at 7-5. Oke switched off for the kick off and the hosts went in for another unconverted score. Right on half time the host's number 10 scorched through the defence for the killer try to make it 19-5 to the home side at the interval.

To the Oke side's credit, they had the better of the second half. Stout work by both Kierans', Coyle and Atherton, was well backed up by an improved team defensive effort, and they pushed for another score. Their perseverance told as good ball retention and recycling allowed flanker Jack Ogbourne to power over in the final move.

Launceston U12s 26

Okehampton U12s 19

THIS was a hard fought game that's not reflected in the score. Not intimidated the Okehampton team met their opponents head on and gave as good as they got. Launceston's scrummaging was no match for the Oke pack who dominated both halves with their hard driving and only giving way once.

Will, Brad B and Joe S fought hard to win each encounter. Also good mauling and rucking from the forwards allowed Oke's to continually push towards their try line.

The first try went to Launceston but Oke kept their heads up and battled on with consistent tackling from the whole team especially Brad S, Jim and Daniel. James lunged over the line putting for Oke but another try from Launceston at half time made it 12-7.

Okehampton's second try came from Kai as he picked the ball out of the scrum, ran around to the blind side, unopposed, for an individual try, converted by Mo the score went to 12-14. Despite another try form James, Launceston ran away towards the end of the match with two more tries.

Ivybridge U12s 42

Tavistock U12s 0

IVYBRIDGE started on fire and quickly put three tries past Tavistock, but good work from the pack saw the visitors starting to win the scrums and the line outs. Archie T, Peter Bull, Alex Bury and John Lord all put in tremedous efforts and although Ivybridge had a 35-0 lead at half time, the second half saw Tavistock put in the best performance to date. Impressive tackling from Jack Smyly, Zac Gorton, Olly Noy Scott and Tom Pearson saw Ivybridge frustrated and unable to score again for the majority of the second half, with a only try scored in the last minute. Archie Allen was Tavistock's player of of the match.

Ivybridge U11s 7

Tavistock U11s 24

TAVISTOCK took the game to Ivybridge from the start with Henry Varndell-Dawes being unlucky not to run the ball all the way back from the Ivybridge starting kick. This set the pace for a ferociously fought battle of rucks by the  forwards of both teams. The visitors went into the lead with two unconverted tries from Henry with his runs causing Ivybridge defensive problems. This gave Tavistock pack of Harry R, Ben M, Reuben C, James R and Noah B, the confidence to maintain possession for scrum halves Dan P and Edward T to provide some excellent quick ball putting Ivybridge on thr back foot. Fly half Harry E provided the pivot for the backs. A try for Noah B, was converted by Henry.

Ivybridge however, kept battering away at the stout defence of backs Ollie S, Cameron H, and James K – but eventually managed to push their way over the line. To their credit Tavistock held their ground with some great tackling from forwards Matt D, Dylan O and Jack Be and wingers Tom P and Tom S. There was sterling work form hookers Ben M and Jack Ba while Edward T made the biggest hit of the game to stop an Ivybridge attack dead. A charge from Matt D was stopped inches from the line, with Henry, picking up and diving over the ruck.

Teignmouth U11s 24

Okehampton U11s 17

PLAYING against the county champions Okehampton only had themselves to blame after a poor start allowing Teignmouth to score three unanswered tries in the first 15 minutes.

Poor rucking, tackling and positioning paved the way for the hosts to build their lead, leaving the Oke's chasing the game.

Okehampton started to rally, bringing three tries of their own through a Will Cunningham breakaway running the length of the pitch, Barnaby Waddell muscling his way through from 15 metres out and a touch down on a loose ball over the line from Cole Pengelly. This brought the scores level but missed conversions also added to the Oke's woes.

The final ten minutes was nip and tuck. Teignmouth made a good clearance kick from their own 22 in the dying minutes and with poor handling by the Oke's giving them a ten metre scrum. Teignmouth won the scrum and their flyhalf ran through some weak tackling to win the game. Saul Holliday, Barnaby Waddell and Joshua McCulloch were the Oke's pick of the bunch.

Paignton U10s 50

Okehampton U10s 5

IN their first match of the season Okehampton tackled hard as the opposition made strong runs towards their try line. Jay Jenkins, Edward Luke , Jacob Smith and Ryan Smaridge all made good tackles, bringing down many of the opposition players before they could score. The score was 30-5 to Paignton at half time with Theo Jackson-Clist scoring a well taken try for Okehampton.

Paignton continued to attack throughout the second half and ran out winners. Oke can take a lot of positives out of their first game as their tactical ability improved against a well drilled Paignton team.

Ivybridge U10s 15

Tavistock  U10s 0

TAVISTOCK's squad of 12 showed great determination in a hard fought contest against a 27 strong Ivybridge. Tom and Logan were strong in the scrum, with scrum half Isaac getting the ball out quickly. Both teams searched for an opening, but great tackling from Ewan and Billy kept Ivybridge in check. Tavistock's rucking had also improved greatly, with Toby B and Tom rucking well.

Ivybridge scored on a breaking run to give them the lead. Tavistock responded with good runs from Isaac and William, with good support from Matthew and Jonathan.

Another long breakaway doubled Ivybridge's lead at the half.

The second half continued to be a tough match, with good tackling from Daniel, and strong commitment to defence from Toby L and Katherine keeping Ivybridge on the back foot. Another long breakaway try for Ivybridge sealed the win in a close game.

Ivybridge U10s 10

Tavistock U10s 25

IVYBRIDGE took the lead on another breakaway

try. Tavistock shored up the defence with one great solo tackles from Ewan and Isaac. Tavistock continued to win the ball in the ruck, with Tom and Logan rucking well. Despite a good goal defence, Ivybridge scored again before the half.

On the first run of the second half, Toby Bs superb run for a score ignited Tavistock. Matthew William and Toby L all went on good runs, before Toby B scored two more tries to give Tavistock into the lead.

Strong play from Katherine and Billy stopped any comeback from Ivy. Toby B scored his fourth try to seal it.

Ivybridge U9s 11 tries

Tavistock U9s 3 tries

IN the first game Tavistock did not really get going while Ivybridge proved determined.  Tavistock player of the match Ollie Pett, captain Billy Wilkinson and Joe Wheeldon, were effective in the tackle for Tavistock but the team they did not really get organised in defence and were punished as a result.  Not through a lack of effort by Tavistock, Ivybridge deservedly won.

Ivybridge U9s 5 tries

Tavistock U9s 7 tries

TAVISTOCK started brightly and quickly scored two tries before Ivybridge pulled it back to make it 2-2 at half time.  The visitors then applied pressure all over the pitch, maintaining a better defence, and scored a number of superb team tries.  Captain Alex Smith was player of the match for his leadership and tenacious tackling.  Try scorers were Jack Lane with 3, Toby Noy-Scott with 2, Liam Watt, Billy Wilkinson, Ted Kenyon, Ben Pitts, and Joe Wheeldon.

Launceston U9s 35

Okehampton U9s 30

OKEHAMPTON U9s had their first contact game after two years of tag rugby. In a match which could of gone either way the tackling of Launceston stood out. For the visitors Llew and Elliot had first class games. Try scores for Okehampton were Joe 3 and 1 each for Llew, Marcus and Jacob.

The support play of Seth, Matt and Cameron was superb while Marcus was able to make a couple of his trade mark runs but a couple of wrong decisions cost Okehampton dearly.

Launceston U19s 45

Okehampton U15s 15

Okehampton were able to field an entirely different team with subs were Launceston were able to use the same side as they had a smaller team. Again Launceston tackling and support proved the key as Okehampton spent a lot of the game on the back foot.

The Okehampton try scorers were Aden 2 and Jacob. The whole team played well with Holly, Alex, Isaac ,Finlay  and Ethan doing particular well in defence but it was the display by player of the match Sam with his non stop tackling.

Launceston U8s 4

Okehampton 8s 7

A WELL disciplined Okehampton team was captained by Adam who scored five tries while Alex scored two. Callum, Alex and Shea kept the Launceston players from scoring by their constant tagging together with some outstanding passing between Lachlann, Adam and Shea. Alex put in some long runs weaving through the opposition to score.

The second half saw some quick thinking from Lachlann as he tagged just before the line denying Launceston a try that they had worked so hard at. Tagging and constant support came from Toby and Chris.

Launceston U8s 8 tries

Okehampton U8s 6 tries
