Devonport U15s 14

Okehampton U15s 7

OKEHAMPTON were going to be up against it from the start.

Devonport had a far larger pack and some pacy backs took the game to the visitors but the Oke defence was strong and kept the visitors at bay. It was not until late in the first half when Devonport broke the defence to score left of the posts.

The second half was similar to the first half with numerous knock ons and infringements in what was becoming a scrappy game with both sides not being able to get any continuity or flow. Devonport scored again by a break up through the middle by their winger. Okehampton put some phases together and created an overlap where Liam Pyle dodged his way over the line. James Bowden scored the conversion from a difficult kick against the wind. The score stood until the final whistle.

The Okehampton side defended with vigour but had opportunities to take the game.

Tavistock U15s 61

Crediton U15s 0

TAVISTOCK got back to winning ways with a fine display of attacking rugby. Cameron McKie opened Tavistock's account, bulldozing over from 10 metres out.

George Hillson soon added a second after a strong run from Ollie Gandy. Some slick handling from forwards and backs saw them go the length of the pitch and second row Scott Morris finished off Tavistock's third.

Crediton battled bravely and their strong pack of forwards had the upper hand in the scrums; they would have scored to but for a last ditch covering tackle from McKie.

Tavistock looked to keep moving the ball wide away from Crediton's forwards, who tackled and stole ball at the breakdown whenever given the opportunity. Ethan Lamerton dived over in the corner for try after Tavistock won a turn over of their own.

Cameron McKie showed his power and pace, picking up the ball from the base of the scrum and charging in from the halfway line. Dan Willis, who had an excellent game with the ball in hand, scored another try after some quick handling from his inside backs and George Hillson kicked the conversion.

In the second half Ben Milligan scored a well deserved try out wide for Tavistock and George Hillson nailed a difficult conversion. Bernie Sadler, who gets better every week, scored after some nifty footwork before player of the match Cameron McKie completed his hat trick, which George Hillson converted. Ethan Lamerton broke clear from a tiring Crediton defensive line to score under the posts late on before Scott Morris brought the game to a close with the final score after a driving run from the five metre line.

Okehampton U13s 10

Ivybridge U13s 15

OKEHAMPTON started well in this semi-final Devon Cup match forcing knock ons and gaining ground, but did not capitalise on this. Then, from a scrum the ball was passed out wide to Jim who got Oke the first try.

The Oke pack performed well in the scrum to win the ball but Oke just couldn't keep possession.

Ivybridge pushed back hard and looked as though they were through but for a try saving tackle from Brad S. Unfortunately, the visitors could not be kept back a second time and they equalled the score.

Oke continued to pressure Ivybridge and were rewarded by a try from Noah, after the pack scrummaged well and dug the ball out. The visitors replied quickly after some poor tacking by Oke.

The second half saw Ivybridge camped in Oke's half with the home side battling valiantly in defence. It was a sustained attack but all of the Oke team showed their determination to try to win this match. George H made some very important tackles but again Ivybridge proved a little too strong and scored a third try.

With just over five minutes left, Oke got the ball down field and drives by Tom S got them nearer and nearer to the visitors' try line. Despite a last minute push, it was not to be and the final whistle blew.

The scoreline does not reflect the huge effort put in by all of the Oke team and this was probably one of their best performances ever.

Tavistock U13s 41

Crediton U13s 10

ON a bright, clear but windy day Tavistock U13s cruised to a comfortable win against Crediton.

Both sides were a bit sheepish to start with and it was Jack Smyly for Tavistock who broke the deadlock with a great side step into the gap in the Crediton line, and then he made the most of some poor Crediton tackling to score a fine individual try. There was good marshalling of the Tavistock backs by Luke Lewandowski and it was Jude White who went on to make a break and score in the corner. Two more tries followed, one from Peter Bull and then a good team move with Olly Noy Scott finding Joe Burbage who made a fine pass to Zac Gorton to dive over the line.

In the second half great work from Tom McKensie meant Archie Allen could collect a pop pass at speed to break the defence and score a fifth try. Two more excellent tries followed from full back Jude and a superb break by Robin Bickley nearly saw Conner released on the wing but some last ditch defending by Crediton saved the day.

It was Crediton who finished strongly with two quick tries. A conversion for Tavistock from Zac and two from Jack, one from the touch line, in difficult conditions, increased the overall score for Tavistock. It was, once again, a great performance by the whole team.

ON Sunday Tavistock U12s travelled to the Trevor Ward festival in Paignton.

AGAIN Tavistock soaked up early pressure until five minutes in they kicked the ball clear of their lines and chased it down and after a fumbled catch by Paignton Luke Edwards dived on the ball for the first try.

Two minutes after the restart Tavistock won their line out and after some good passing James Roissetter ran in to score the second try. Paignton kicked the restart only for Henry Varndell-Dawes to catch and run in for his second try.

Paignton restarted and this time powered forward forcing Tavistock to work hard in defence. Another try from Henry Varndell- Dawes put the boys 20-0 up. A great effort by Jaxom Cann saw him nearly score only prevented by multiple players pushing him into touch inches from the line.

Tavistock U12s 5

Dursley U12s 0

TAVISTOCK took on Dursley, a touring team from Gloucestershire. The West Devon side took control early but did not score until the 13th minute when after constant pressure a Dursley clearance was caught and ran in for a try by Henry Varndell-Dawes. Great tackling by Cameron Hart and Ben Mckenzie in the final minutes prevented Dursley from scoring.

Tavistock U12s 10

Plymstock Albion Oaks U12s 15

THE game started badly for Tavistock when the Oaks kicked off then powered through to score their first try after one minute. Plymstock added tries in the fifth and seventh minutes. However, Tavistock showed good spirit and continued to battle hard and in the 13th minute Henry Varndell-Dawes kicked through and James Roissetter dived on the ball to bring the score back to 15-5. Another run down the left wing saw Henry score a second try.

Tavistock U12s 5

Brixham U12s 0

Tavistock U12s 5

Plymstock Albion Oaks U12s 25

OAKS came out fighting in the final and a hard aggressive game saw them go 10-0 up after five minutes. A try by Henry Varndell-Dawes for Tavistock just before half time brought the score back to 10-5.

A hard second half followed and despite excellent tackling from Reuben Coleman, Edward Tait and Jaxom Cann Plymstock scored two more tries to end up winning 25-5 against a tired, battered and bruised Tavistock side.

It was a great effort from the whole Tavistock squad with some great rugby and some incredible grit and determination all day long saw them crowned as worthy runners up.

n OKEHAMPTON U10s took part in a mini tournament involving home team Tavistock along with Devonport and Taunton. First off was Devonport to which Oke got stuck in and put some the pressure on their opponents. With bulldozing tackles from Isaac, Ethan and Seth getting into the rucks with some impressive gusto, giving Devonport a good run around but despite Oke's full on game Devonport were victorious.

Next up was Tavistock and despite a loss in the first game Oke went in strong, with Sam, Jacob and Aedan really getting into a captain's role and managing the team showing a skill in looking for gaps and weaknesess of the opponents. Then Oke seemed to lose their spark, but the rucks from Holly and Seth were impressive as were the tackles from Cameron, Marcus, Elliot and Ethan. The game ended in a 20-20 draw.

Against Taunton, a team with some impressive looking players, Oke had lost its stride and were struggling to gain momentum. Marcus, Joe, Elliot, Alfie and Morgan managed to defend well but could not stop a tough team getting through and scoring.

Okehampton U9s 55

Tavistock U9s 20

CAPTAINED by Lachs the Oke boys were on the attack from the outset with a quick first try from Adam; he soon followed with another. Lachs covered the ground, passed to Will for his first try, while he ducked and weaved for his second and then another taking his total to three. The Oke defence resisted the Tavistock attack, rarely showing weakness in this first half. Callum and Lachs scored one each for Oke while the visitors replied with one try in the first half.

The second half saw Dan for Oke put in good runs and it took two or three opponents to bring him down. Saul was tackled close to the try line for Oke but the ball made its way to Alex who scored a nifty try. Shortie fought his way through for one try Saul scored two while Tavistock scored three tries in the half.

Okehampton U9s 60

Tavistock U9s 35

TAVISTOCK opened by weaving their way through the Oke defence for their first two tries. Adam for Oke took advantage of a loose ball to score one of his three.

Lachs, Will and Callum worked well together for Oke, showing a lot of power; Josh ran with the Tavistock players chasing him — he was bought down but close enough to the line to stretch out and score. Will also scored one for Oke in this half.

For Okehampton Alex kept running well moving play up the pitch towards the try line and was also tackling well. Some good tackling was also seen from Adam. Chris ran well, passing to Saul to score one of his five tries. Jacob passed to Lachs and then on to Dan for one of his two tries. Tavistock scored five in this final half. There was also good support play for Oke from Liam, Archie, Flynn, Ben and Toby.

Bideford U8s 21 trie

Okehampton U8s 26 tries

ON a good day for running rugby Oke started slow out of the blocks and went a couple tries down in the first few minutes. However, they soon regrouped and started playing as a team with good tagging and some superb passing out of the tag to supporting players to run in some good tries.

Grady was back to his best with some great runs while Billy had one of his best games this season with good running and suppport.

Freddie, Cain and Daniel also played their part in a good game.

Oke tries scored by Grady (9), Billy (8), Freddie (2), Daniel (4), Thomas J and Cain (2).

Tavistock U7s 12 tries

Devonport Services

U7s 8 tries

Tavistock U7s 3 tries

Devonport S U7s 1 try

THERE was good tagging by the Tavistock team. Tavistock won possession on the Services line straight away with Nathan passing to Jack, who ran the full length of the pitch to score.

Jack for Tavistock popped the ball to Nathan for him to touch down in the left corner.

Both Gabriel and Dominic were unlucky, just missing out on a try each. Charlie and George were great in support, taking some superb tags. Jack found space to make a lovely run through to score his second.

Tavistock U7s 6 tries

Devonport S U7s 4 tries

TAVISTOCK made a flying start when William A passed the ball to Finlay, who then swerved through the Services' defence to score.

Tavistock took advantage of the space, with Brendan passing wide to George, who found the right hand corner. Although Services again came back at Tavistock, the boys stayed strong. Lewis took a pass from Finlay to run through the defence to score.

After the whistle the ball again turned over to Tavistock, right on the line, Joe made a great run before passing the ball to George who scored — the second of his three tries.

Tavistock U7s 3 tries

Devonport S U7s 3 tries

THIS game was end to end with Tavistock taking advantage of winning possession from Services. After making five tags several times Alastair and Edward worked well together to score the tries for Tavistock, with Edward two and Alastair one. Some lovely swerving runs from Michael laid on great support for the try scorers.

Tavistock U6s 5 tries

Devonport S U6s 6 tries

TAVISTOCK U6s played their first ever competitive match on Sunday at Sandy Park, narrowly being defeated by Devonport but showed great teamwork throughout.

An early run by Josh was thwarted on the try line, preceded by some great defensive play by Tal and Jonah.

Two solo tries by Tom and Ollie were followed by a great teamwork try, involving passes by Imogen, Peter, Matthew and Josh, which was finished off by Rory.

Ollie completed a hat-trick with two final tries to cap an impressive showing by the debutante U6s' side.
